Youth workers

The youth workers found that it was difficult trying to get the young people to focus on the subject matter at the beginning of each session. This problem was resolved after the second week by allowing the young people 10 minutes to settle at the beginning of each session. Once this 10 minute settling down period had been introduced total participation was given by all young people. However, his is not to say that they were not distracted or mischievous throughout the remainder of each session.

The youth workers also commented on how the young people were confident enough to speak about what they had learnt and had the courage to say it in front of everybody.   This was not only due to the public speaking session but also due to the young people increasing their confidence, self-esteem and communication skills.
